Job Description

What you'll do

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director - Drainage Engineer to join our South East Queensland team in either Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast office.

In this diverse technical role, you will oversee the design, development, and implementation of comprehensive drainage systems and stormwater management solutions. You will combine your deep engineering expertise with strategic vision to drive innovation in drainage infrastructure while overseeing project delivery and being a mentor for our junior engineers, and coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders.

This position offers the opportunity to shape significant infrastructure projects and mentor emerging talent in the drainage engineering field.

  • Lead the design and analysis of complex drainage systems, including stormwater management, wastewater collection, and flood mitigation solutions using advanced hydraulic modeling software
  • Oversee project teams through all phases of drainage engineering projects, from conceptual design through construction and commissioning
  • Develop detailed technical specifications, hydraulic models, and construction drawings using industry-standard CAD and modeling software
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal teams to ensure project success and alignment with organizational objectives
  • Review and approve engineering work performed by junior staff, ensuring quality standards and adherence to best practices
  • Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for drainage projects
  • Contribute to business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities and building client relationships

Qualifications

What you'll bring

  • Proven professional experience (ideally 15+ years) in drainage engineering, civil engineering, or related infrastructure design disciplines
  • Advanced proficiency with drainage design software including 12D, HEC-RAS, SWMM, or equivalent water resource modeling tools
  • Strong expertise in AutoCAD, BIM software, and project management applications
  • Strong working knowledge of of detailed road and rail designs, TMR Drainage Manual, AR&R and QUDM
  • Demonstrated experience with Australian drainage standards, regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in preparing technical documentation, reports, and construction specifications
  • Strong project management capabilities with experience managing budgets, timelines, and resources
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across teams and with external stakeholders
