Job Description

What you'll do

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director - Water Resources and Flood Engineer to join our South East Queensland team in either Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast office.

In this influential role, you will oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive water resources and flood management strategies while directing a team of engineering professionals. You will be responsible for delivering innovative solutions to complex water management challenges, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving strategic initiatives that protect communities and infrastructure from flood risks.

  • Lead and mentor a team of water resources and flood engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment
  • Develop and oversee flood risk assessments, hydraulic modeling studies, and water resource management plans for major projects
  • Direct the analysis of hydrological data and flood behavior using industry-standard software and modeling tools
  • Manage stakeholder engagement and communication with government agencies, clients, and community representatives
  • Ensure all projects comply with Australian water legislation, environmental regulations, and industry best practices
  • Review and approve engineering designs, reports, and technical documentation
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, methodologies, and regulatory changes in water resources and flood engineering

 

Qualifications

What you'll bring

  • Proven professional experience (ideally 15+ years) in water resources engineering, flood management, or related civil engineering disciplines
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and directing complex engineering projects
  • Advanced knowledge of hydraulic and hydrological modeling software (HEC-RAS, RORB, or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of flood risk assessment methodologies and climate change adaptation strategies
  • Comprehensive understanding of Australian water legislation, environmental regulations, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Professional registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Australia 
  • Knowledge of managing mine water with proven exposure to managing water across mining sites and clients (highly advantageous)
