Job Summary
Repairs and installs a variety of machines throughout the School District. Involves testing new equipment for performance and recommending methods of correction for malfunctioning equipment. Receives assignments of increasing complexity as they gain familiarity with the work environment.
 

Essential Functions

  • • May test new equipment for performance; recommends methods of correction in cases of malfunction; checks for the safety of equipment and modifications to ensure that safety measures are adhered to.
  •  • Operates all machine shop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, shaper, planer, radical drill press, surface grinder, and band saw; may supervise and instruct subordinates in their operation
  •  • Works with various types of pumps and compressors such as reciprocating and centrifugal for air vacuum, water and steam.
  •  • Repairs electrical motors, valves, automatic lubricators, automatic draft fans and blowers, pumps shaft, bearing and seals.
  •  • May be called upon to repair or install equipment in all schools and departments of the School District. 
  • • May oversee the work of trainees. 

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of full-time, paid experience learning the machinist trade as an apprentice.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

 • Demonstrated knowledge of:

  •  o the principles, methods and procedures governing the machinist trade. 
  • o the tools and equipment used in the trade. 
  • o the principles of machinery as they apply to the trade. 
  • o blueprint reading.
  •  o the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. 

• Demonstrated ability to:

  •  o care and use of the tools of the trade.
  •  o accurately follow oral and written instructions.
  •  o prepare records and reports of work performed. 
  • o establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Certificates/Licenses

 • Valid proper class license to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment.
