There are many purposes in the Division of Finance and Operations. The Division is responsible for the management and direction of all business and financial activities required to ensure service and program delivery. The unit organizes, develops, implements, monitors, evaluates and enhances billing and collections to fund programs that meet the public health needs of Iredell County residents. The unit is involved in leading multi-divisional projects, leading the consolidated health department budget, acquiring resources, strategic planning, developing partnerships, managing compliance issues, and supporting operations. The Processing Assistant utilizes office procedures and performs an extensive range of functions to support program/service operations.The primary responsibility of this position is to independently implement policies and procedures to assess patients’ eligibility for sliding scale discount and to collect payment. These tasks are completed for MH, FP, CH, General Clinic, IMM, and Dental programs as well as, Walk-in services. A large part of the position responsibilities includes extensive knowledge and independent interpretation of the policies and procedures for STD, FP, MH, CH, TB, CD, LAB, IMM programs. This position is cross trained to function in all clerical support areas including the Mobile Health Unit (MHU). Tasks performed by the position include but are not limited to: registering and checking in patients, updating and reviewing financial screens for billing, scheduling appointments, switchboard, general data entry, and scanning. This position requires the ability to perform all tasks in a timely and efficient manner to ensure smooth clinic operations. The successful candidate must be able to handle sensitive information with professionalism, courtesy and tact.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  


Completion of high school or equivalent and two years of clerical or secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year associate’s degree in business administration.


NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills to interact with patients from diverse backgrounds with tact and professionalism. Ability to strictly follow and independently apply complex written policies and procedures regarding eligibility and billing.Strong ability to problem-solve and make independent decisions once initial training is complete Ability to type with accuracy and speed is required; must take initiative and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Typing, data entry, and mathematical tests will be given.


SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:


Experience working in electronic health records, attention to detail, document scanning with meta-data knowledge, and bilingual English/Spanish are a plus. Experience in a healthcare setting with knowledge of medical terminology is highly desired.
