Job Description
Under designated supervision, serves as a working Leader over people involved in the maintenance, repair, and installation of all equipment, fixtures, and buildings at an installation, exchange or several exchanges. Leads at least three associates and the highest grade of nonsupervisory, primary work is M-10. 1. Provides work direction and training to assigned associates. Plans and completes projects from initial layout to final assembly or installation. 2. As a Leader of a crew in major field work such as renovating facilities may be required to coordinate all work areas to include electrical and refrigeration. Provide directions for NA-10 AC, Maintenance Mechanics, and Electricians. 3. Works from building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, electrical maintenance, and repair manuals to plan and layout the routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load continuity, and proper and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls. Installs, modifies, repairs, loads, and tests secondary electrical distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements. Determines, arranges, places, and routes conduit, distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections, and circuit breakers. 4. Maintains and repairs various electrical systems, including a variety of appliances, lights, electrical drives, alarm and security, circuits, clocks, etc. 5. Locates and diagnoses trouble in fire alarms, lighting, buzzers, clocks, thermostats, etc., which may involve the use of a variety of electrical test equipment. 6. Installs and repairs a variety of large air conditioning systems, such as mechanical compression, vapor compression, absorption, steam jet, and air cycle, serving large retail, food, services, vending, and office areas. Works on a variety of compressors such as gear reciprocating, centrifugal, or rotary pump; and a variety of refrigerant controls such as those with low- and high-pressure side floats, automatic thermostatic expansion valves, capillary or choke types, and those based on volume or quantity changes. Also works on a variety of complicated motor controls, thermostatic (remote and double remote), defrosting controls, relays, and other controls to protect against overload and overheating. 7. Dismantles, repairs, and reassembles units such as pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receiver, and evaporator. Installs and fits related connecting rods, crank shafts, piston rings, bearings, and bushings. Overhauls valves by adjusting or replacing gaskets, springs, floats, diaphragms, valve fittings, seals, and couplings. Aligns motor and flywheel drives. 8. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical and air conditioning/refrigeration systems and equipment. 9. Working from drawings and schematic diagrams, prepares labor and material cost estimates and develops bill of materials required for installation and maintenance of electrical and/or air conditioning refrigeration systems. 10. Processes work order requests for approval and implementation and determines appropriate controls on cost and account identification.11. Performs and leads others in carpentry, painting, and/or plumbing functions requiring a level of skill and responsibility characteristic of work at grade M-9 and below. 12. May install, maintain, and repair electronic and electro-mechanical cash registers and peripheral equipment. Performs preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and simple emergency repairs, as required. 13. As required, performs TDY travel of one or more days duration to other Exchange locations. 14. May operate motor vehicle to transport material and personnel, when required. 15. Fills in for maintenance Foreman during Foreman's absence. 16. Ensures compliance with fire, safety, sanitation, and security regulations. 17. Performs other duties as assigned.
