Job Description:

Our purpose is to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. For over 100 years, bp has focused on discovering, developing, and producing oil and gas in the nations where we operate. We are one of the few companies globally that can provide governments and customers with an integrated energy offering. Delivering our strategy sustainably is fundamental to achieving our ambition to be a net zero company by 2050 or sooner.

About the role

Please note that roles based out of SJS or Sunbury will move to Timber Square, Southwark, from Q4 2027.

What does “good maintenance” really look like when safety, reliability, and cost all matter at the same time?

At BP, we believe maintenance works best when people plan carefully, work together, and learn from every outcome. As a Maintenance Specialist, we work as a team to make maintenance activities clear, achievable, and well aligned with daily operations.

We focus on doing the basics well, improving reliability step by step, and ensuring work is properly prepared before it reaches the field. By working closely with operations, engineering, procurement, and external partners, we aim to reduce unplanned downtime and create maintenance plans that truly support how the site operates — today and tomorrow!

What you will deliver

  • Work with the maintenance and operations teams to manage and prioritise the maintenance backlog, ensuring work is clearly defined, properly planned, and ready for execution
  • Support contract handover and implementation activities, helping teams transition smoothly while maintaining clarity on responsibilities and expectations
  • Apply cost‑aware thinking when supporting maintenance decisions, balancing reliability, risk, and practicality
  • Support the use of preventive and predictive maintenance approaches to help improve equipment performance over time
  • Assist with changes to maintenance processes, equipment, and systems through Management of Change activities
  • Develop, review, and discuss maintenance KPIs and performance metrics with the wider team
  • Coordinate with procurement and logistics to ensure materials are planned, aligned, and available when needed
  • Contribute to maintenance performance reporting by sharing observations, lessons learned, and improvement ideas
  • Help develop, update, and follow maintenance procedures and standard ways of working
  • Apply reliability principles to support improved asset availability and reduced unplanned downtime
  • Build constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Support alignment between maintenance activities and operational priorities
  • Contribute to planning, scheduling, execution, and close‑out of maintenance work
  • Prepare clear and complete work packages, ensuring safety, documentation, materials, and resources are considered before work starts

What you will need to be successful

  • Experience working in maintenance work management and backlog management environments
  • Experience or exposure to contract handover and implementation activities
  • An understanding of cost‑aware maintenance decision‑making in operational settings
  • Knowledge of maintenance and reliability fundamentals and how they are applied in practice
  • Experience supporting or participating in Management of Change processes
  • Ability to work with KPIs, metrics, and maintenance performance data
  • Experience coordinating materials planning with procurement or logistics teams
  • Familiarity with maintenance procedures and standard practices
  • Confidence working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • An understanding of how maintenance activities support wider operational goals
  • Experience preparing or reviewing maintenance work packages
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred
  • Relevant industry certifications are welcome
