A Day in the Life

Position Summary

The HR Director (HRBP) for South East Asia (SEA) is a strategic business partner and trusted advisor to senior leaders across the sub‑region. This role is accountable for shaping and delivering a compelling people and talent strategy that enables profitable growth, builds leadership capability, and strengthens Medtronic’s position as an employer of choice.

Operating in an evolving HR ecosystem, the role balances enterprise alignment and regional relevance, partnering closely with HR Centers of Excellence (COEs), HR Shared Services, and digital platforms to deliver seamless, high‑impact people solutions. As HR is progressing in a digital‑first, AI‑enabled operating model, this role is expected to personally adopt digital and AI tools and actively enable leaders and employees to become AI‑agile.

The HR Director SEA leads and develops a team of Country HRBPs, providing coaching, career guidance, and strategic direction. The role has end‑to‑end accountability for organizational effectiveness, change leadership, workforce planning, talent management, leadership development, and employee experience across a diverse, multi‑country environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Partnership & Organization Effectiveness

  • Act as a trusted advisor to SEA leadership, providing insight and counsel on organizational design, leadership effectiveness, and workforce strategy.
  • Lead and enable organization design, operating model evolution, and leadership transitions in support of business priorities.
  • Drive organizational effectiveness initiatives with a focus on strategy execution, multi‑country collaboration, functional excellence, and scalable structures.
  • Champion Organizational Health, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Engagement, ensuring sustained progress and measurable outcomes.
  • Partner with COEs to support workforce planning, acquisitions, restructures, and adoption of HR technologies and platforms.

Talent & Leadership Management

  • Lead the end‑to‑end talent agenda, including Talent Reviews, Organization Reviews, Performance Management, Succession Planning, and Career Development.
  • Build future‑ready leadership and talent pipelines, strengthening bench strength and readiness for critical roles.
  • Ensure diverse representation and inclusive talent practices.
  • Enable talent strategies that support growth, transformation across the region.

Digital‑First & AI‑Enabled HR Leadership

  • Model a digital‑first mindset, leveraging HR technology, data, and AI tools to improve decision‑making, productivity, and employee experience.
  • Actively adopt and champion AI‑enabled ways of working, enabling leaders and employees to become AI‑agile.
  • Advocate HRMony as the first point of contact for HR inquiries
  • Use insights from digital platforms, analytics, and feedback loops to proactively identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

Change Management & Employee Experience

  • Lead change management efforts across transformations, ensuring clarity, engagement, and adoption.
  • Partner with Employee Relations COE to proactively manage employee relations matters, ensuring fair, compliant, and consistent outcomes.
  • Counsel leaders in alignment with Medtronic policies, values, legal considerations, and business priorities.
  • Partner with Communications and business leaders to ensure effective internal communications and change narratives.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop Country HRBPs, building a high‑performing, future‑ready HR team.
  • Create a strong culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation within the HRBP community.
  • Ensure HR capability building aligned with evolving business and digital needs.

Total Rewards & Recognition

  • Partner with Rewards COE to implement and communicate rewards and recognition programs effectively.
  • Ensure clear differentiation of performance and pay, reinforcing a strong performance culture.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • Broad leadership and HR expertise with demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience across multiple HR disciplines, with strong business acumen and strategic orientation.

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including leading through others
  • Experience leading organizational transformation and change
  • Experience in HR strategy design and execution
  • Exposure to global or regional HR roles within a matrix structure
  • Strong multi‑country and multi‑stakeholder management capability
  • Demonstrated comfort with digital tools, HR technology, and AI‑enabled ways of working

Travel Requirements

  • Willingness to travel (approximately 30%).
