Overview
Responsibilities
- Surgical Procedures: Perform variety of invasive procedures, including laparoscopic, endoscopic, and open surgeries on the alimentary tract, abdomen, breast, and skin.
- Patient Diagnosis: Examine patients, take medical histories, and order/interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, lab work) to determine the necessity of surgery.
- Comprehensive Care: Manage all phases of surgical care, including preoperative physical and psychological preparation and postoperative recovery monitoring.
- Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate surgical staff, including assistant surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing teams, to maintain a sterile and efficient operating room environment.
- Consultation & Education: Advise patients and families on treatment options, surgical risks, and recovery plans in layman's terms.
- Emergency Response: Provide immediate surgical intervention for trauma or acute conditions when specialized surgeons are unavailable.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records (EMR), including operative notes and discharge summaries.
Qualifications
- Education: Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- Training: Completion of a 5-year accredited General Surgery residency program.
- Licensure: Active and unrestricted state medical license.
- Certification: Board certification (or eligibility) by the American Board of Surgery or equivalent.
- Experience: Typically 3+ years of post-residency experience is preferred.
