A Day In The Life

  • Serve as the technical lead for testing in the High Voltage and Pulsed Power Laboratory, partnering with R&D to define requirements, develop test programs, set schedules/priorities, oversee execution, and deliver clear, defensible test reports.
  • Act as the laboratory subjectmatter expert for highvoltage lightning and surge arrester testing (IEC 600994, IEEE C62.11) and highvoltage insulator testing (e.g., IEC 600601, ANSI C29.1), interpreting requirements and translating standards into robust test methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Lead collaboration with the Hubbell Simulation Engineering Team to correlate models to physical test results, define validation plans, and drive improvements that reduce development cycle time and test iteration while maintaining technical rigor.
  • Own the technical roadmap for new and enhanced test capabilities to meet evolving market requirements, industry standards, and customer needs; develop business cases and inputs to longrange lab infrastructure and investment planning.
  • Define system requirements and serve as design authority for new HV test systems (AC, DC, impulse, switching surge, dielectric/endurance, and specialized setups), including specification, risk assessment, validation, commissioning, and operator readiness.
  • Lead and sustain laboratory accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025, including ownership of assigned quality system elements, audit readiness, internal/external audits, proficiency testing, and creation/maintenance of controlled procedures and technical records.
  • Mentor and develop laboratory engineers and technicians through technical coaching, review/approval of work products, and establishment of best practices in test method development, data integrity, and safe execution.
  • Lead investigations for test or equipment nonconformances, including root cause analysis, risk assessment, corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), and effectiveness verification.
  • Develop and maintain 1/3/5year plans for critical equipment maintenance, upgrades, and replacement; partner with the Laboratory Manager to scope, justify, and execute capital equipment, controls, and automation projects.
  • Ensure technical quality and integrity of test data and deliverables by reviewing test setup and results for compliance to plans/standards, approving reports for release, and providing handson technical oversight during complex or highrisk testing.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required
