Job Description
Job Title: Engineering Consultant (Through Life Data Strategy)
Location: Barrow-In-Furness or Filton, Hybrid
Salary: £57,000 to £61,000 Dependent on experience
Who we are:
Join BAE Systems and you’ll be part of something bigger. As a valued member of our global colleague network, you’ll bring your unique skills and perspectives to help pioneer progress and protect what matters most. You’ll be trusted to play your part in delivering advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions, shaping a safer future for all of us. From the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of space, there’s no limit to where a career at BAE Systems could take you.
What you will be doing:
In this role, you’ll lead the development and implementation of engineering-led data strategies that enable evidence-based decision-making, optimise asset performance, and reduce support costs across the lifecycle of major submarine programmes. You’ll play a key role in defining how engineering and sustainment data is governed, integrated, and leveraged to support long-term operational success. Working closely with engineering teams, IM&T, and enterprise stakeholders, you’ll help create a seamless digital thread from design through to in-service support, ensuring engineering data frameworks align with technical, safety, and contractual standards.
Core duties:
- Lead the development and implementation of engineering-driven data strategies to support lifecycle sustainment and optimisation
- Define the data, tools, and digital platforms required to meet engineering and supportability needs
- Establish frameworks for data quality, integrity, traceability, and compliance with engineering and safety standards
- Drive integration across PLM, ERP, LSAR, reliability, safety, and analytics environments
- Collaborate with engineering leads, IM&T, and wider stakeholders to embed lifecycle-focused data practices
- Support the delivery of engineering transformation initiatives focused on digital capability and data exploitation
Essential Skills:
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or equivalent technical discipline
- Experience in through-life engineering, supportability engineering, or digital engineering within defence or similarly complex engineering environments
- Proven experience leading engineering-driven change or transformation involving digital tools and data exploitation
- Understanding of engineering data management principles and lifecycle support requirements
- Knowledge of the CADMID lifecycle, support engineering principles, and relevant MOD/Def-Stan standards
- Experience delivering engineering data integration initiatives from governance through to analytics and decision support
The Information Knowledge Management Transition to Support Team:
This is a newly created and highly strategic role focused on shaping the future of data management across our Submarine programmes. As the fleet enters service, the focus is evolving from initial Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) data towards the long-term sustainment and management of engineering data throughout a lifecycle spanning more than 30 years.
You’ll play a pivotal role in defining and delivering the strategy, frameworks, and governance required to support this transition. Working at the forefront of a significant growth area within BAE Systems, you’ll directly influence how engineering and support data is structured, integrated, and utilised across some of the UK’s most advanced engineering programmes. Relocation support packages are available across all Submarines roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
A place where everyone can thrive:
We’re committed to building an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified people and encourage discussion of reasonable adjustments where needed.
Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to security and export control restrictions. Applicants must meet Baseline Personnel Security Standard, and many roles require higher levels of National Security Vetting, including 5–10 years continuous UK residency depending on the role.
Why BAE Systems?
Here you’ll build a career with purpose and limitless possibilities. Lifelong learning, meaningful work, and a supportive culture enable you to grow with confidence. You’ll be recognised for your contribution and supported with rewards that matter most to you.
