JOB SUMMARY:
The Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse serves as a role model. consultant, change agent, and facilitator. Utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of quality patient care for patients with ostomies and complex wound and drainage problems, as well as in the prevention and management of pressure ulcers and/or other disorders of the skin. Serves as a liaison for the physician, nursing staff, ancillary departments and external agencies to implement processing of the patient through the health care continuum. Supports the System and Nursing Strategic Plans. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, Master's degree preferred. Meets licensing requirements to practice registered nursing in the State of Maryland. Minimum of four years of medical/surgical nursing experience. Certification by the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society when eligible. Understanding of current nursing practice trends. Knowledge in the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development. Exhibits a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, the ability to work productively under stress and displays a professional demeanor. Requires the ability to prioritize work loads.
