Summary:
Houston Ballet is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and analysis skills, is eager to learn, and willing to accept the challenge of finding new innovative ways to improve our processes. The Senior Accountant will work directly with other Finance team members responsible for GL, AP, AR, PR, Facilities and Human Resources, and will also be a resource for other departments throughout the organization. Houston Ballet is a non-profit performing arts organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform general accounting duties:
- Ensure the accuracy of general ledger account balances at the end of each accounting period through the regular review of general ledger transactions and by proposing adjusting journal entries when necessary.
- Review accounting documents for accurate account codes related to specific Departments, Project IDs, and Expense Categories.
- Review monthly bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts at the end of each accounting period to subsidiary schedules.
- Prepare, enter and/or approve general ledger journal entries
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annually financial reports and special report preparation.
- Provide financial reports to department managers when requested.
- Assist in training other staff to improve and enrich knowledge.
- Assist with other accounting duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor.
- Assist with preparation of audit schedules and responses for the annual audit.

Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (accounting or finance is preferred)
- 4+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in small business or non-profit accounting
- Experience and working knowledge with general ledger transactions such as adjustments, journal entries, reclassifications, and reconciliations of accounts.
- Experience with preparation of audit schedules and analysis
- Experience in non-profit accounting/finance is preferred.
Computer Skills
Microsoft Office, with emphasis in Excel. Knowledge of Sage Intacct accounting system, Ramp, Tessitura and QuickBooks experience preferred
