Position Summary:
Location: Field Base – 50% Travel
We have an opportunity for a Vice President and General Manager, Cell and Gene to join our team. This role is accountable for setting commercial strategy, building organizational capability, and ensuring consistent performance. The position oversees multiple advanced therapy modalities, including induced pluripotent stem cell, plasmids, cell therapy, and gene therapy across several sites in the US and EU. The leader will manage direct and dotted line reports across key functions such as Strategy, Marketing, Business Development, Operations, and more.
The Role:
- Support the development and drive the execution of a market data-driven strategy for the Cell & Gene business that is fully aligned with the strategic vision for the Biologics segment and addresses key themes such as ‘Patient First’, Quality & Compliance, and Growth/ transformational initiatives.
- Translate approved Cell & Gene strategy into tangible, measurable strategy deployment plans with clear targets & priorities that can be communicated and cascaded to all stakeholders; that set long-range targets for Cell & Gene; that provide scope for prioritized strategic initiatives; that form the basis for resource allocation planning, including capital deployment.
- Build & operate robust governance systems and metrics to establish clear organizational expectations, key performance indicators, and operating mechanisms to drive consistently excellent performance.
- Ensure budget and capital strategies are well constructed based on commercial, operations and finance input/ business performance data
- Define & execute a targeted go-to-market/ commercial plan to adequately position Catalent Cell & Gene in the market; to identify target customers & molecules; adequately deploy commercial/ business development resources to create & shape demand; to build a robust pipeline of opportunities; to deliver new/ recurring orders that drive revenue growth in line with annual/ long-range/ strategic targets.
- Ensure all Cell & Gene (and individual business) revenue, contribution margin, EBITDA & cash commitments are met, in full partnership with functional leaders & business partners.
- Build and maintain strategic senior-level customer relationships while maximizing cross-business opportunities in line with customer satisfaction goals.
- Ensure the commercial organization provides accurate demand plans & forecasts to allow Manufacturing Operations & Supply Chain to adequately plan resources and execute to consistently meet customer expectations, following a robust SIOP process.
- Collaborate with peers to ensure adequate processes and systems are developed and deployed that ensure relevant data is captured, retained, processed, and analyzed to enable timely decision-making, drive business insight, and ensure all compliance obligations are met.
- Drive a LEAN, operational excellence culture while ensuring full regulatory and quality compliance across the division.
The Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree required (scientific or technical discipline); advanced degree (MS/MBA) preferred. Scientific or Engineering background with strong operational and commercial acumen.
- Proven profit and loss leadership experience within the Pharma Services industry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead in a matrixed organization and influence cross-functional teams.
- Global leadership capability, including senior customer engagement.
- 10+ years of senior-level management experience with consistent results.
- Strong leadership in talent development, team engagement, and succession planning.
- Executive presence with excellent communication skills and knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices, International Organization for Standardization, and regulatory standards.
- Demonstrable leadership experience at Catalent (including but not limited to participation in Catalent sponsored leadership programs such as NGGL, GOLD, LEAD Now, GM Excellence, and GROW) may be considered in place of external experience.
Pay
The anticipated salary range for this position in Maryland is $315,000-400,000 plus an annual bonus target.
