Job Description

The Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) serves as the hub for curricular and student success initiatives in the College of Arts & Sciences. Services range from academic advising and individualized academic skills coaching to academic recovery courses and summer bridge programs.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Student Success, the College Life Skills Coach will enhance OUE’s mission of student excellence through enhanced student success support, including one-on-one and group academic skills coaching. The position may also offer for-credit academic strategy coursework during the academic year and contribute to summer bridge programs for those students in need of starting their academic journey with added support. The position will work collaboratively with other members of the Student Success Team in providing a myriad of unique support services to students in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Offer one-on-one and group academic skills coaching to students, focusing on topics such as time management, study strategies, exam preparation and metacognition.

  • Assist with the administration of College summer bridge programs, Hoos Getting Ready and Summer Advancement Program and more.

  • Recruit and facilitate training for seasonal staff.

  • Support scheduling operations academic workshops.

  • The work of the Curricular Initiatives and Student Success unit is evolving to embrace high impact practices for undergraduate student learning. The position will support new student success initiatives and programming in development. This may include supporting course instruction, content development, and more.

This role occasionally requires the incumbent to work beyond routine work hours (8am-5pm) to accommodate special events and activities, both during the academic semesters and the summer. In discussion with supervisor, the incumbent must be available to participate in these occasional work activities that take place outside of standard work hours.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience: 3+ years relevant professional experience required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in counseling, higher education , or related field
  • Experience: Direct experience in academic skills coaching, academic advising, or counseling in an institution of higher education
  • Experience engaging in empathetic and patient communication

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Salary Range

  • The anticipated hiring range is $60,000 - $70,000, commensurate with education and experience.

  • This position is based in Charlottesville, VA and may be eligible for a hybrid schedule in accordance with UVA’s remote work guidelines.
