We are hiring a Research Assistant I (Casual – up to 19.5 hrs/week) to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, TX . In this role, you will support school- and community-based public health research projects focused on nutrition, health equity, and chronic disease prevention. Daily responsibilities include leading Brighter Bites Acres Homes data management, codebook development, and analysis efforts; supporting qualitative and quantitative data analysis activities; assisting with publications and grant writing; and collaborating with faculty, students, staff, and community partners on ongoing research initiatives.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, supports community-based and public health research activities according to study protocols and project timelines. Research activities may include data collection and data management, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, literature reviews, publication support, process evaluation activities, and coordination with faculty, students, staff, and community partners.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Support implementation and coordination of Brighter Bites Acres Homes research and evaluation activities.
  • Lead Brighter Bites Acres Homes data management activities, including database organization, data quality monitoring, codebook development, and analysis support.
  • Collect, organize, maintain, and prepare research data and documentation to support faculty investigators and research staff.
  • Support quantitative and qualitative data analysis activities for Brighter Bites Acres Homes and related
    research projects.
  • Analyze and support dissemination and publication of Brighter Bites Acres Homes qualitative data.
  • Support overall Brighter Bites process evaluation data analysis efforts and reporting activities.
  • Support Brighter Bites 2.0 data analysis efforts, including preparation of summaries, reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Support faculty, students, and staff with manuscript preparation, abstract development, publication
    submissions, and presentation materials.
  • Support faculty grant writing and proposal development efforts.
  • Participate in project meetings, trainings, and collaborative research activities.
  • Maintain compliance with all required institutional and research training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Familiarity with Excel, RedCap, qualitative data analysis, manuscript development, and statistical software such as R or Stata is preferred.
  • Experience supporting manuscript development, scientific publications, qualitative data analysis, and grant writing is highly desirable.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree required May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
