 Reporting to the Paste Fill Surface General Supervisor , you will be part of the Surface Operations Department. You will be responsible for overseeing the planning, operation, and optimization of the paste fill plant and supporting the backfilling UDS. This role ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective paste production and distribution while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.You will lead the paste fill team and coordinates closely with mining, surface operations, maintenance, and technical services departments. 
 

Operational Management 

  • Supervise the daily paste plant operations, including batching, mixing, sand haul, binder haul and the distribution of the paste; 

  • Assist with paste fill schedules with underground production teams; 

  • Ensure consistent paste quality meeting geotechnical and strength specifications; 

  • Monitor system performance (pumps, pipelines, reticulation systems); 

  • Troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime.  

     

 

Safety & Compliance 

  • Promote and enforce strict adherence to health and safety standards; 

  • Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and risk assessments; 

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and tailings management standards; 

  • Assist with incident investigations and implement corrective actions. 

     

 

Technical & Quality Control 

  • Assist paste recipe development and optimization; 

  • Ensure laboratory testing (slump, UCS, density, binder content) is completed and documented; 

  • Work closely with geotechnical engineers to meet backfill design requirements; 

  • Monitor tailings characteristics and binder consumption. 

     

     

Leadership & Supervision 

  • Supervise paste plant operators, technicians, and support staff; 

  • Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations; 

  • Develop shift schedules and workforce planning; 

  • Foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.Maintenance & Asset Management. 

     

     

Maintenance & Asset Management 

  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance with the maintenance department; 

  • Ensure reliability of pumps, pipelines, thickeners, mixers, and control systems; 

  • Monitor inventory of binders, spares, and consumables; 

  • Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities.  

     

 

Reporting & Budgeting 

  • Track operational KPIs (availability, production rates, binder consumption, costs); 

  • Assist in preparing operational reports for management; 

  • Assist in budgeting and cost control initiatives; 

  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities; 

  • Troubleshoot operational issues to minimize downtime. 

  • Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in underground mining or paste fill operations; 

  • At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role; 

  • Strong understanding of paste backfill systems and geotechnical requirements; 

  • Knowledge of tailings management and binder systems; 

  • Proficiency in mine planning and reporting software (PI, SAP, JDE,  – preferred); 

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills; 

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities; 

  • Effective communication and coordination skills; 

  • High attention to safety and compliance; 

  • Ability to work in remote or site-based environments. 

 
YOUR WORK SCHEDULE 

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday / 84 hours per week, Wednesday to Tuesday at our Macassa Mine in Kirkland Lake, ON; 

  • You must be willing to work on a rotational schedule at a remote mine site.
