JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC) related courses while supporting student success, academic excellence, workforce development, and community engagement across the College’s service district. The successful candidate will deliver classroom and laboratory instruction, develop and maintain curriculum aligned with current industry standards, integrate emerging HVAC technologies and certifications into instruction, and foster an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Teach assigned HVAC courses using effective instructional strategies and hands-on laboratory experiences.
- Develop, revise, and maintain curriculum and instructional materials aligned with industry standards, student learning outcomes, and workforce demands.
- Utilize the College’s Learning Management System and instructional technologies to support student engagement and academic success.
- Promote student success through timely communication, mentoring, advising, and constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, assessments, and student progress in accordance with College policies.
- Ensure safe classroom and laboratory operations by modeling and enforcing OSHA and HVAC industry safety procedures.
- Integrate industry-recognized certifications such as HVAC Excellence, NCCER, EPA Section 608, and other relevant credentialing standards into instruction.
- Remain current in emerging HVAC technologies, equipment, codes, and workforce trends through professional development and industry engagement.
- Support retention, persistence, and completion initiatives for workforce and technical education students.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- The qualifications and skill requirements for the position include:
- Associate degree or a career certificate in HVAC, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years of documented work experience in the HVAC industry required.
- Valid industry credential or licensure required, including one or more of the following:
- HVACR Journeyman License
- NCCER Minimum Level Two HVACR Certification
- HVAC Excellence Certification
- North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Certification
- HVAC Contractor License
- EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Recovery Certification required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration, electrical controls, troubleshooting, safety procedures, and industry-standard tools and equipment.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and software applications including Microsoft Office, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and learning management systems.
- Ability to teach day, evening, online, and hybrid courses as assigned.
- All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
- Preference shall be given to the following:
- Two (2) or more years of postsecondary teaching, workforce training, or apprenticeship instruction experience preferred.
- Additional industry-recognized certifications such as OSHA 10-Hour Construction, Backflow Prevention, or advanced HVAC specializations preferred.
- Experience with curriculum development, workforce program promotion, and advisory board coordination preferred.
- Familiarity with adult learning principles, competency-based instruction, and technical education best practices.
- Experience collaborating with industry partners, workforce boards, or community stakeholders.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements for this position include: Ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Ability to safely lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training; Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating applications; Demonstration of appropriate skills as required by curriculum and standards; Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach with hands and arms, and stoop; Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot all lab equipment in the lab; Ability to bend down and get on knees while performing different techniques; Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations; Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision, distance vision, color
