Open Until Filled  GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Rooted in Wyoming’s only gold rush, South Pass City State Historic Site is an amazing place to work and live. Located between the southern end of the Wind River Range and the Red Desert, the 400-acre historic site features a truly unique history.  Gold was discovered here in 1867 and the town once boasted 2000 residents.  Now many of the original buildings and the Carissa Mine remain.  Today, our staff work together to create engaging and lasting experiences for over 15,000 visitors per year.
