Job Description
A structural fitter assists in the layout, fabrication, installation, testing and repair of pipe & plate system; fits pipe/plate and steel components properly prepares joints for welding to meet the specific requirements of the system on which work is being done; works from blueprints and makes fabrication sketches from which another mechanic could fabricate a unit of pipe/plate; lays out and figures offset bends; supervise and coordinate activities of assigned tacker(s); and accurately assists in other aspects of ship construction, fitting, and launching.
