Job Description

Position Summary 

Recreation Crew members will spend their summer exposed to a diverse range of USDA-Forest Service career opportunities working as part of a team in the Mt. Baker Ranger District to prevent resource damage, minimize sanitation impacts, and reduce impact on the land. Work includes front country developed site maintenance, Wilderness and trails project work, and providing information about recreation opportunities and Leave No Trace principles at visitor centers, ranger district offices, and in the field at trailheads and on high use trails.

Schedule 

June 14, 2026 - September 25, 2026

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Maintains developed sites, roadside dispersed sites, and Wilderness camping areas to meet sanitation standards
  • Installs and maintains information boards, travel signs, regulatory signs and other signs associated with recreation sites and safety
  • Provides detailed information about recreation opportunities and explains Forest Service regulations to Forest visitors
  • Provides education about Leave No Trace principles
  • Performs basic trail maintenance tasks

 

Marginal Duties 

Collects visitor use data

 

Required Qualifications 

  • A personal vehicle needed (housing is in a remote location with limited or no public transportation)
  • The ability to work as part of a team
  • The ability to work outside in adverse weather conditions
  • The aablilty to communicate with the public
  • Flexibility
  • Dependability

 

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Hours 

40 per week

 

Living Accommodations 

Shared house with up to 2 people per bedroom. Shared living spaces include kitchen, living room, dining area, and bathrooms.

 

Compensation

  • Living allowance-$750/week
  • Housing provided at no cost to intern
  • Up to $450 per diem (if camping is required)
  • $1,300 Relocation Travel Allowance

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
