Why Is This Role So Special?
The Software Engineer will join the Product Engineering team at Activated Insights to develop software solutions that improve employee and customer engagement in the senior care industry. In this role, you will build and enhance full-stack web applications hosted on AWS. You’ll work primarily with PHP/Laravel and modern integration technologies to solve complex, real-world challenges in healthcare technology and help providers deliver better care experiences.
What You’ll Do:
-
Build full-stack web application features using PHP/Laravel deployed on AWS, writing clear, maintainable, and well-tested code
-
Implement API and flat-file integrations (REST, SOAP, SFTP) with internal software, external healthcare systems, and EMRs, with guidance from senior engineers on design
-
Use AI coding tools and agentic workflows daily to build and ship production software — applying engineering judgment to validate outputs, ensure quality, and own the result end-to-end
-
Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and code reviews — both giving and receiving feedback to grow your craft and strengthen the codebase
-
Follow CI/CD-based development practices, including writing automated tests, using feature toggles, and adding logging/monitoring to your work
-
Work with product, QA, and senior engineers to understand requirements and translate them into working software
-
Investigate and resolve technical issues including authentication failures, data mapping errors, and data ingestion anomalies, escalating when appropriate
-
Contribute to sprint planning by estimating your work, breaking down tasks, and flagging risks early
-
Contribute to a strong engineering culture focused on learning, transparency, and mutual respect
Experience and Qualifications:
-
3+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in healthcare technology or data-driven SaaS applications
-
AI-assisted development fluency — daily use of tools like Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code to ship production code, with ownership of correctness, security, and quality
-
Effective prompting and agentic workflows — ability to decompose problems, provide context, run multi-step AI workflows, and apply judgment to validate or correct AI output
-
Solid working experience in full-stack development using PHP (Laravel), MySQL/Postgres, and AWS-hosted applications
-
Familiarity with CI/CD practices, automated testing, logging, and monitoring in production environments
-
Hands-on experience building or troubleshooting RESTful API integrations; exposure to SOAP, flat file, or SFTP-based exchanges a plus
-
Working knowledge of authentication and authorization protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), or SAML
-
Strong problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to continuous learning
-
Bonus: exposure to healthcare data formats (HL7, FHIR, X12), EMR systems and APIs, or programming in Python, C#/.NET, or Java
Physical Requirements:
-
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
-
Multiple video meetings each day where web camera use is required.
Schedule:
-
Full time, 40 hours/week
-
Monday through Friday, core business hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM locally with occasional flexibility for collaboration across time zones or to meet critical deadlines.
-
This role may require occasional travel, including participation in company-sponsored engineering offsites and training sessions, which are typically held 1–2 times per year.
Work Location:
-
Remote/ Hybrid
