Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Department: Wisconsin - Maintenance

Reports to: Assistant Maintenance Manager

Location: Wisconsin

Summary:

Under the direction of the Assistant Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Manager, maintenance mechanics perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs of equipment and inspections on all process equipment while assisting with facilities maintenance, equipment installation, and overhauling of all process equipment. The mechanic ensures that food safety measures, GMPs and safety compliance are adhered to in all operations. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

 

Accountability # 1 – (60%):

  • Assist with improvements in equipment reliability, availability and maintainability for all processing departments and facilities maintenance.
  • Evaluates, and improves maintenance methods.
  • Department improvement through the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) program or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Performs preventive maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Proficient in task management and prioritizing your workload.
  • Read sketches, electrical prints, operating instructions and proceed accordingly.
  • Use CMMS system to navigate stock inventory, check out parts and request new/non-stock items.
  • Lay out work from sketches, drawings, blueprints, etc.
  • Fabricate and assemble parts to construct machinery and equipment.
  • Locate, line up and anchor machinery.
  • Test and time machinery.
  • Able to repair, adjust, trouble-shoot, and time food processing equipment.
  • Able to repair, adjust, trouble-shoot, and time weigh scales, metal detectors, and case printers.
  • Proficient in Mig and Tig welding processes.
  • Demonstrated welding skills with all metals, especially stainless steel.
  • Analyzes and makes necessary repairs of fluid power systems.
  • Lay out and install process piping, electrical conduit and pneumatic systems.
  • Understand food processing equipment computer control systems.
  • Works in an extremely safe manner and protects not only himself but also other people and equipment in the facility.
  • Follow all food safety GMP procedures within the plant to ensure a sanitary environment.
  • Maintains a strong professional demeanor and work ethic.

 

Accountability # 2 – (40%):

  • Informs Assistant Maintenance Manager of any known or anticipated problems and recommends corrective action.
  • Must be proficient in following and enhancing Preventative Maintenance programs.
  • Maintains maintenance work orders and logs work appropriately using CMMS software.
  • Communicates effectively in group situations and with co-workers.
  • Adequately voices opinion to influence others and accomplish goals.
  • Ensures clear and timely communication within department and with other departments to maximize productivity and minimize down time.
  • Communicate essential and relevant information to the maintenance team and other departments if necessary.
  • Work under the philosophy of one cross-functional operational team, rather than department silos.
  • Must be able to work any shift and weekends.
  • Must be able to safely operate a forklift, scissors lift and high reach boom lift.
  • Must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • The typical workday is 12 hours with additional hours/shifts as needed based on job requirements.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 12 hours a shift.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work on top of dryers.

Requirements:

  • 1-5 years of experience in manufacturing maintenance.
  • 2-5 years of Food Manufacturing experience.
  • Prior experience working with a CMMS software and be computer literate.
  • Have a good understanding of equipment maintenance procedures and duties.
  • Fabrication and welding skills including experience with stainless Steel.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential and expected.
  • Forklift, scissor and boom lift experience - must be able to be certified.
  • Efficiently completes assigned tasks in a timely manner and provides constructive input when establishing priorities.
  • General knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, and the ability to follow wiring diagrams.
  • Must be able to perform work duties in hot and cold environments while wearing required PPE.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry heavy items, up to 60 lbs.
