Job Description

We are seeking a Director, Dispensing Pharmacy to join our team at Independent Living Systems (ILS). About the Role:

The Director, Dispensing Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing all aspects of pharmacy dispensing operations within a healthcare organization. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant distribution of medications to patients while maintaining the highest standards of pharmaceutical care. The Director, Dispensing Pharmacy will lead and develop pharmacy staff, implement best practices, and collaborate with clinical teams to optimize medication management and patient outcomes. They will also manage regulatory compliance, budgetary oversight, and strategic planning to support organizational goals. Ultimately, this position drives excellence in pharmacy services, enhancing patient safety and satisfaction across all dispensing channels.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current and unrestricted pharmacist license in the United States.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in pharmacy practice, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role within a dispensing pharmacy setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and standards governing medication dispensing and safety.
  • Demonstrated experience managing pharmacy operations, staff, and budgets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board certification in a relevant pharmacy specialty (e.g., Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist).
  • Experience working within a large healthcare system or hospital environment.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Strong background in quality improvement methodologies and regulatory accreditation processes.
  • Advanced leadership training or certification (e.g., Certified Pharmacy Executive).

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the dispensing pharmacy, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures to optimize pharmacy workflow and medication distribution processes.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate pharmacy staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective medication therapy management and patient counseling.
  • Oversee inventory management, procurement, and budget adherence to maintain cost-effective pharmacy operations.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements, including accreditation standards and reporting obligations.
  • Analyze performance metrics and quality indicators to identify opportunities for operational enhancements and patient safety improvements.
  • Lead initiatives related to technology integration, such as electronic prescribing and automated dispensing systems.
