Job Title: Associate Director Legal
Reports to: Senior Director – Legal, One India Hub
Job Level: P1-3
Base Location: Gurgaon
Purpose of Job:
Manage legal needs of the India commercial organisation ('Affiliate'/'AFL') under the leadership of India Hub Legal Leader and provide direct legal counsel as appropriate to the teams at Affiliate. This role is an individual contributor role.
Position Responsibilities:
Serve as a key resource and provide effective day-to-day legal support resulted in legal solutions which supports the India Hub legal objectives and supports the AFL’s business objectives, minimize legal risks, and comply with local laws, regulations and company’s policies (including legal counselling in various areas of law including corporate structure and support, commercial, promotion, regulatory, transactions, litigation, competition, anti-bribery, FCPA, sanctions, advertising, IP, employment contract issues).
Proactively support the Affiliate in preventing, detecting and responding to legal risks in business operations, drive solutions for products, processes and services.
Monitor, identify, interpret and timely communicate to the internal function/commercial teams’ changes in the law potentially affecting business operations. Assist with internal controls and compliance program enhancements. Own and implement legal strategy to adopt, develop and implement programs, policies and practices. Make decisions that impact a range of standard and non-standard operational, processes, project or service activities. Engage cross-functional/ cross-geographical collaboration to replicate best practices.
Participate in the regional and corporate assignments/projects as discussed and in alignment with the Legal Lead for the Hub.
Work towards defending the company in government investigations/inquiries. When needed, cooperate with in-house counsels on internal investigations with the assistance of external law firm or in-house HR or Compliance investigation resource.
Develop and conduct training programs for the Affiliate’s employees based on the identified needs.
Support and lead the implementation of legal strategy, budgeting process, global business solutions, anti-counterfeit activities, AI projects, advocating activities in local associations and on the external front.
Job Requirements:
Degree in law from the top universities Fluent in English
At least 8+ years’ experience in law firm or in-house legal department of pharmaceutical/healthcare/life sciences company.
Preferred: International or multinational firm experience.
Skills:
- Comprehensive legal, business and technical knowledge/experience to improve processes and services.
- Ability to work independently, lead large-scale projects and programs with moderate risks and resource/financial requirements, engaging teamwork and collaboration.
- Risk Management skills, ability to facilitate cross-functional/cross-geographical work.
- Self-motivated. Highly organized. Ability to anticipate and resolve complex problems. Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, able to make difficult decisions and stand behind them.
- Good communication skills (written and oral).
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to establish key relationships and to partner well with others, ability to identify internal/external customer requirements and develop solutions to meet customer’s needs. Strong analytical skills. External and internal influence potential. Sound judgment and issue spotting ability.
