The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, has an exciting full time opportunity for an Optometrist 3 in Doral, Florida.
The Optometrist 3 provides expert-level clinical care in the examination, diagnosis, and management of complex ocular and visual conditions. This role delivers advanced therapeutic interventions, oversees specialized vision care programs, and serves as a senior clinical resource for optometry and ophthalmology teams. The incumbent mentors clinicians, leads quality improvement efforts, and supports operational and strategic initiatives to enhance patient care delivery.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Conducts advanced ocular examinations and manages complex or chronic eye and vision disorders.
Utilizes specialty diagnostic tools and provides subspecialty services such as scleral lens fitting, low‑vision
care, pediatric optometry, or other designated expertise areas.
Develops comprehensive treatment plans and co‑manages complex surgical patients with Ophthalmologists.
Prescribes and administers therapeutic pharmaceutical agents within authorized scope.
Provides clinical leadership and consultation to Optometrists, trainees, and other care providers.
Leads or supports quality improvement, protocol development, and clinical best‑practice initiatives.
Contributes to program planning, operational improvements, and budget recommendations.
Educates and mentors residents, fellows, and staff in advanced optometric procedures.
Participates in research or scholarly activities, as appropriate.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Doctorate degree - Optometry (OD) required
Experience:
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience required
Certification and Licensing:
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
