Divisional Director, Licensing and Compliance (East)

Job Description

  • Lead the development of compliance strategy and policy, driving a culture of compliance for assigned division. Make decisions based on defined objectives, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders and management on matters relating to compliance such as: pricing, signage, environmental (recycling/pollution/waste), human relations, and licensing for pesticides.
  • Serve as the company’s first point of contact for external vendors/agencies/inspectors regarding defined compliance areas. Collaborate with appropriate internal partners to provide required information and/or manage issue resolution.
  • Manage operational decisions on process changes and appropriate signage to support state pricing laws.
  • Provide feedback on developing and implementing policies to ensure compliance with external regulatory frameworks.
    • In coordination with HR and Legal partners, evaluate HR compliance risk based on the current regulatory landscape and anticipated changes.
    • Facilitate programs to support a productive work environment. 
    • Support licensing curriculum by overseeing study/test preparation and engaging 3rd party training solutions. 
  • Partner with IT on automated solutions to support compliance requirements.
  • Partner on the auditing and monitoring of compliance programs. Assist with inspections to ensure compliance with the organization's policies, procedures, regulations and standards. 
  • Oversee and provide direction on collection, treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste, ensuring safe manner, legal compliance and environmental protection. 
  • Oversee material safety inspection and monitoring, labeling, and use.
  • Partner to investigate accidents/incidents and implements corrective measures. 
  • Keep up with changing environmental, health and safety laws and regulations and advises on their impact to business operations. 
  • Partner to conduct compliance risk assessments and create a workplan to coordinate implementation of necessary mitigation actions, aligned with evolving regulatory requirements, industry standards, and business initiatives and strategies.
  • Interact with corporate leadership and others concerning matters of significance to the organization. Represent the function on committees as assigned.
  • Drive and influence compliance activities of stores teams including leadership, store management and/or individual contributors. 
  • Encourage appropriate compliance behavior and culture by effective communication and dissemination of compliance strategy, policy, and processes.
