The Project Subcontracting Manager (m/f/d) is responsible for the end-to-end management of subcontracting activities on a project, from strategy definition to contract close-out. The role ensures delivery of subcontract packages on time, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, technical, and procurement requirements while actively managing commercial and contractual risks.
Explore your tasks and responsibilities
Subcontracting Strategy & Planning:
- Define subcontracting strategy in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Establish vendor lists and subcontract work packages
- Develop and maintain the Project Procurement Plan (PPP) & Design Package and Procurement Strategy (DPPS)
Tendering & Contract Award:
- Manage RFQ / tender processes for subcontract packages
- Ensure NDAs are in place prior to tendering
- Lead commercial evaluation and supplier selection
- Prepare and submit recommendations for award
Contract Negotiation & Formation:
- Lead or support commercial and contractual negotiations
- Ensure appropriate Terms & Conditions are applied and documented
- Validate that contracts and POs align with project strategy
Subcontract Administration (Post-Award):
- Manage subcontract execution throughout project lifecycle
- Coordinate with project teams (engineering, construction, planning)
- Ensure proper contract administration and documentation
Change Management & Claims:
- Manage variations, change orders, and claim with subcontractors
- Ensure changes are properly captured, approved, and reflected in Purchase Orders
Supplier Performance & Risk Management:
- Monitor subcontractor performance (cost, schedule, quality)
- Identify risks and implement mitigation actions
- Support issue resolution with subcontractors
Show your expertise
- Master or Degree in Procurement or Engineering or similar
- Strong contract management expertise (FIDIC / EPC / subcontracting)
- Advanced negotiation skills
- Strong cost and commercial awareness
- Ability to manage complex multi-package procurement
- Risk management and mitigation mindset
- Leadership and stakeholder management
