Position Title: Communications Support Specialist 
Location: District Office 
Classification: Classified
 
SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, the Communications Support Specialist collaborates with district leadership to create engaging and informative content for a variety of media platforms that highlight Vallivue's programs, services, accomplishments, and priorities while addressing topics important to the community. This position serves in a support role to strengthen overall district communications through creative storytelling, visual design, and multimedia production. The Communications Support Specialist must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, technical proficiency with design and media software, and the ability to develop attractive, audience-focused content across print, digital, social media, and multimedia formats. The position also requires the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and community stakeholders to support clear, positive, and consistent district messaging.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Produce high-quality, engaging social media content for the district's social media accounts highlighting students, staff, and programs.
  • Must be timely with completion of assigned projects and maintain organization of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Help mitigate the spread of misinformation by identifying effective communication strategies
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging.
  • Provide professional assistance in the development of various publications (brochures, newsletters, information bulletins, etc.)
  • Coordinate multiple calendars to organize the production of social media content.
  • Attend school events and meetings of high interest to the community to capture content.
  • Engage with students, staff, and families in a professional, positive, and encouraging manner in order to bring the best out of students, staff, and families when creating content.
  • Work collaboratively and creatively with and report to the assistant superintendent.
  • Generate timely ideas for high interest stories.
  • Create content for internal purposes.
  • Support staff and students with creating their own content.
  • Assist in developing, reviewing, and refining district messaging prior to publication to ensure communication is accurate, clear, timely, and aligned with district goals and community expectations.
  • Interact professionally with community members and positively represent the school district in public settings, meetings, events, and other community engagement opportunities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or digital communication preferred.
  • Experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work preferred.
