Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join the team in Richmond, VA. This role blends project coordination, estimating support, and ownership of smaller commercial projects, making it a strong next step for an APM or Project Engineer ready to grow into a Project Manager role.
What You'll Do as the Assistant Project Manager:
- Support Project Managers with planning, scheduling, budgeting, and day-to-day project execution
- Assist with estimating, takeoffs, bid coordination, and subcontractor outreach
- Manage smaller projects independently from kickoff through closeout
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, owners, and internal stakeholders
- Track costs, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation
- Maintain accurate project records in Procore
- Attend project meetings and visit job sites as needed
- Help ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards
Must-Haves as the Assistant Project Manager:
- 2-5+ years of commercial construction experience as an APM, Project Engineer, or similar
- Exposure to both project management and estimating
- Strong understanding of construction documentation, schedules, budgets, and subcontractor coordination
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
- Clear communication and strong organizational skills
- Self-starter mindset and comfort working on a smaller, team-oriented staff
Nice-to-Haves as the Assistant Project Manager:
- Experience with a commercial general contractor
- Procore experience
- Project experience in the $500K-$5M range
- Background with ground-up, renovation, institutional, public-sector, or commercial work
- Interest in growing into a Project Manager position
