Job Summary:
The Deputy Chief Academic Officer provides system-level leadership for the Learning Services Division, supporting the Chief Academic Officer in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of district initiatives and programs. This role oversees multiple academic departments, ensures coherence across K�12 programs, supports instructional and programmatic improvements, and manages cross-departmental initiatives to improve student outcomes. The Deputy Chief Academic Officer also plays a key role in program evaluation, accountability reporting, and implementation of recommendations from external reviews, including the special education audit.
Essential Duties
- Support the executive operations of the Learning Services Division in the implementation of a high-performance system, utilizing key work processes and human resources to produce student achievement results.
- Ensure Pre-K�12 alignment of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention systems within an MTSS framework to support high-quality instruction and targeted support for all students, including but not limited to students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and gifted and talented students.
- Provide a broad range of assistance and information for the Chief Academic Officer.
- Provide direct supervision forAcademic Programs and Professional Development and Standards Departments.
- Initiate and lead interdepartmental teams in analyzing specific issues or problems and in developing strategies and recommendations to effectively bring resolution.
- Present academic updates, reports, and recommendations to the Superintendent and Board of Education.
- Develop Board agenda items, policy revisions, and administrative regulations related to academics.
- Provide strategic counsel to the Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer on emerging instructional issues and legislative changes.
- Support an accountability system that is in place to measure student achievement results on an individual, classroom, school, and district basis.
- Evaluate and review the performance of assigned district office staff.
- Provide assistance and support to Grade Level Executive Directors relative to Learning Services.
- Drive continuous improvement of Learning Services programs by analyzing data, identifying trends, and managing multiple projects with meticulous attention to detail, clear performance metrics, and unwavering focus on achieving measurable student outcomes.
- Assist with fiscal and long-range planning for Learning Services.
- Enhance professional growth through attendance and participation in seminars and conferences at the local, state, regional, and national level.
- Employ practices that support high expectations for all students and personnel and foster a positive working and learning climate.
- Model civility and integrity in all dealings with students, staff, parents, and community members.
Other Duties
Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as designated by the Chief Academic Officer.
Job Specifications
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)
- Master's degree in educational administration required.
- Possess a valid South Carolina administrative certification.
- Specialization in curriculum and instruction preferred.
- Teaching and administrative experiences at elementary, middle, and/or secondary levels.
- Experience supervising Pre-K through 12, Special Education, Title I, ESOL, Instructional Technology, and/or Assessment programs.
- A minimum of five years of successful experience as a school administrator.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of research concerning best teaching practices and experiences in translating research to practice.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements

Duties may involve risk when attending to students' behavioral needs.

- Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds; Sufficiently mobile to ensure the safety of students;
- Specific vision requirements include close vision , distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus;
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;
- Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;
- Ability to read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and
- Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
