Job Description

Job Title: Director for Academic Programs

Supervisor: Chief Academic Officer

Terms of Employment: 246 days

Job Summary:

  • To coordinate and drive implementation for instructional programs and services
  • To coordinate and to support college and career readiness
  • To coordinate and drive implementation of new and existing academic programs and build leadership capacity

     

Essential Duties

  1. Lead the identification, development, and implementation of innovative academic programs.
  2. Work with district personnel to coordinate funding, training, and implementing SAT/ACT programs, IB programs, 3DE Programs, Middle College and AP courses
  3. Serve as the district coordinator for AVID
  4. Serve as the Dual Enrollment lead
  5. Serve as the district liaison for HGTC
  6. Coordinate the implementation of dual-enrollment courses
  7. Serve as the liaison between the district and universities for internship and practicum placement
  8. Lead the Gifted and Talented Program K-12
  9. Ensures standards alignment and rigor across courses and grade levels.
  10. Coordinate college-readiness programs - SAT/ACT
  11. Coordinate the summer enrichment programs
  12. Oversees curriculum and instruction of the HCS Virtual FLEX Program
  13. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local funding requirements.
  14. Work collaboratively with the Director of Professional Development and Standards to execute the new teacher academy and summer professional development
  15. Work collaboratively with executive directors to ensure effective coordination, support, and utilization of all programs allocated to sites
  16. Participate in ongoing professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes to enhance job performance

Other Duties

Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as designated by the Chief Academic Officer.

Job Specifications

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

  1. Master's degree in education or administration/supervision from an accredited college/university
  2. Valid South Carolina teacher and administration/supervision certification
  3. At least five years of successful teaching and leadership experience
  4. Leadership experience working with teachers and administrators
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken interpersonal communication skills
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or crawl. 

Additional physical requirements include the following:

  • Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry
  • Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone
  • Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone
