240-Day Administrative Position
Darlington County School District is seeking an exceptional instructional leader to serve as the district's ELA Coordinator.
This role is centered on one essential responsibility: ensuring every student develops strong literacy skills through high-quality instruction, evidence-based practices, and aligned systems of support. This is not simply a curriculum support role. This is leadership work focused on improving teaching and learning outcomes for students across the district.
The ELA Coordinator will lead district literacy initiatives grounded in the Science of Reading, support the implementation of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), strengthen instructional practices, and build the capacity of teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders.
This position requires a collaborative and strategic leader who can translate literacy vision into measurable results for students while building strong instructional systems and partnerships across schools.
What This Role Will Do
Lead for Student Literacy Success
- Support district-wide implementation of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) aligned to South Carolina standards
- Lead literacy initiatives grounded in the Science of Reading and evidence-based instructional practices

- Strengthen literacy achievement across all elementary schools and support efforts to close achievement gaps
- Ensure literacy instruction reflects best practices in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing
- Assist schools in developing and implementing strong literacy plans and intervention systems
- Support Read to Succeed initiatives and district literacy priorities
Strengthen Instructional Practice
- Provide instructional coaching and technical assistance to teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators
- Model effective instructional practices and support high-quality classroom instruction
- Support implementation of MTSS frameworks and evidence-based interventions for Tier I, II, and III instruction
- Facilitate professional learning communities and collaborative instructional planning
Use Data to Drive Improvement
- Analyze district, school, and classroom-level literacy data to guide instructional decisions and intervention planning
- Assist schools in developing action plans based on benchmark, screener, and progress-monitoring data
- Monitor instructional effectiveness and support continuous improvement efforts
Build and Support Strong Teams
- Design and facilitate high-quality professional development aligned to district goals and teacher needs
- Collaborate with principals, instructional coaches, special education teams, multilingual learner teams, and curriculum leaders
- Build instructional capacity across schools through ongoing coaching and support
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous growth
Ensure Alignment and Compliance
- Support curriculum alignment, instructional coherence, and implementation fidelity across schools
- Assist with resource selection, pacing guidance, and instructional planning
- Maintain knowledge of current literacy legislation, instructional best practices, and state accountability expectations
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal literacy requirements and initiatives
Align Systems and Operations
- Support scheduling, transportation coordination, and student access to programs
- Maintain inventory and support procurement aligned to program needs
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal CTE requirements

- Can translate district vision into measurable instructional results
Qualifications
- Valid South Carolina certification in Elementary Education, English Language Arts, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership required
- South Carolina Principal Certification preferred
- Master's degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience required
- Administrative, instructional coaching, or district leadership experience preferred
- LETRS training and/or extensive knowledge of the Science of Reading preferred
- ADEPT training preferred
- Demonstrated experience improving literacy achievement and instructional outcomes
- Experience facilitating professional development and coaching teachers
- Strong knowledge of HQIM, MTSS, assessment systems, and evidence-based instructional practices
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Compensation
- Base salary $76,513 commensurate with experience and credentials, according to the DCSD Administrative Salary Schedule
- Comprehensive benefits package including state retirement and health insurance
- 240-day administrative contract
