Classified General Maintenance Specialist

JOB GOAL
Incumbents are responsible for performing journey level trades maintenance activities. Incumbents serve as a lead to Maintenance Technicians on assigned projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.), and two years of journey level trades experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Card
  • Certification in assigned trades area is preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as a project lead to Maintenance Technicians, including prioritizing and assigning work.
  • Repairs and/or regulates District buildings, fixtures, systems, facilities, and/or grounds by making journey level repairs or installations depending on area of assignment/expertise; responds to emergency calls for assistance; responds to customer complaints or safety concerns.
  • Installs, makes, and/or modifies a variety of materials, fixtures, and/or equipment.
  • Inspects facilities, systems, and/or fixtures and ensures periodic servicing.
  • Prepares paperwork related to daily assignments.
  • Maintains and cleans systems and equipment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of procedures and methods related to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials relevant to area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of inventory principles.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping principles.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Using applicable tools and equipment related to area of assignment.
  • Performing journey level trades maintenance activities.
  • Prioritizing and assigning work.
  • Reading blueprints, schematic drawings, and/or construction drawings.
  • Troubleshooting systems related to area of assignment.
  • Preparing and maintaining a variety of maintenance records.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Employees may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.
  • Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

POSITION FTE: Position Hours: 4 per day
