Parent Liaison

JOB GOAL
Parent Liaisons are essential for being the liaison between parents and schools. This position helps to increase and improve parent/family and community engagement in the Cartwright School District #83. Parent Liaisons provide parent training and pertinent information in an effort to increase parental engagement in the students overall educational program in preparation for the student to be college and career ready.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
- Additional education beyond high school preferred
- Skills in speaking, writing and reading a second language predominant in the community is desirable
- Communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
- Bilingual and Biliterate in English and Spanish
- Grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- General office procedures
- Provide customer service
- Record keeping practices and procedures
- Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Card
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attends Professional Learning Community meetings and professional development with the Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, Principals, and Coordinator for Family Engagement.
- Provides follow-up to school staff/administrators concerning parent communications.
- Performs other work-related duties of similar nature or level.
- Build positive relationships between the school and its community of parents and families.
- Facilitate a productive, two-way dialogue with Administrators around the issues, concerns and celebrations that are important to Cartwright families.
- Implement parent leadership training to empower parents to effectively advocate for their children.
- Engage parents in the health, safety and education of their children.
- Create workshops, trainings and provide direct assistance to ease the integration of families who have trouble understanding or navigating the school district's system.
- Provide training and support to school staff on parent engagement strategies.
- Nurture and manage relationships with local organizations and businesses to increase the support and services available to families at the campus level.
- Ensure each campus has an active parent advisory committee to work directly with the Principal on solutions and recommendations that impact student achievement and Governing Board Goals
- Create and manage forms and opportunities for parents to get involved and volunteer at the campus level
- Contact parents and families through phone calls, home visits and meetings at school or district site in order to encourage participating in school and or district activities and events.
- Provide information to parents concerning district policy and procedures such as registration, PTO, curriculum and initiatives, assessments, uniform, discipline as stipulated in our District Parent/Student Handbook
- Contact outside community agencies for the purpose of seeking resources and activities that will increase the participating of families in school and parent training opportunities.
- Position in this class typically require: reaching, grasping, speaking, hearing, vision, and repetitive motions.
- May require: pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable Cartwright School District and departmental policies and procedures.

POSITION HOURS: 8 per day
