POSITION: Teacher (4th Gr. Math)
 
LOCATION: Sherwood Acres Elementary School
 
JOB SUMMARY:
 
The Dougherty County School System is seeking an elementary teacher to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective teaching professionals. The teacher is responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic achievement, social development, and a love of learning for all students. This position plans and delivers standards-based instruction aligned with district curriculum and state standards while using a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students. The Elementary Teacher monitors student progress, uses data to inform instructional decisions, and collaborates with colleagues, families, and school leadership to support student success. Through effective classroom management, meaningful engagement, and high expectations, the teacher fosters critical thinking, curiosity, and lifelong learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Bachelors' degree or higher;
  2. Valid Georgia Teacher certification or Charter Waiver eligible;
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

  1. Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  2. Ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality;
  3. Ability to relate and motivate all students in a positive manner with respect;
  4. Ability to successfully integrate technology into the classroom while engaging students;
  5. Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.

 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Maintains consistent, punctual attendance and actively participates in all required school and district activities;
  2. Establishes and maintains a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that promotes respect, engagement, and high expectations for all learners;
  3. Plans and delivers rigorous, standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence and district curriculum;
  4. Designs and implements engaging, differentiated learning experiences that support diverse learners and promote conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills;
  5. Utilizes a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, and hands-on learning opportunities to enhance student engagement and understanding of mathematical concepts;
  6. Develops and implements formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, measure mastery of standards, and guide instructional decision-making;
  7. Analyzes student data to identify learning gaps, inform instructional adjustments, and provide targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities;
  8. Maintains effective classroom management practices that foster a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment;
  9. Communicates regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding academic progress, expectations, and strategies to support student success;
  10. Collaborates with colleagues, instructional coaches, and administrators to strengthen instructional practices and support continuous improvement in mathematics instruction;
  11. Participates in professional learning, data team meetings, and collaborative planning to improve instructional effectiveness and student outcomes;
  12. Accurately maintains student records, documentation, and required reports in accordance with district policies and timelines;
  13. Supervises students during instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned to ensure student safety and well-being;
  14. Demonstrates professional responsibility by maintaining satisfactory performance on the district evaluation instrument and adhering to all district policies, procedures, and expectations;
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift and carry teaching materials, books, or small classroom equipment (typically up to 25 lbs);
  • Ability to prepare and manipulate learning materials;
  • Ability to stand and actively move around the classroom for extended periods;
  • Ability to move between classrooms, hallways, and other school areas as needed;
  • Ability to respond quickly in case of emergencies, such as evacuating students or assisting during drills;
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
     

 
REPORTS TO: Principal
 
SALARY RANGE: Ten-Month Contract - Competitive salary and excellent benefits package in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
