Company Description
Boskalis is a leading global dredging and marine contractor. We design and build infrastructure in and around water, such as ports, waterways, offshore energy installations and coastal protection projects. We also develop and operate a large fleet of specialised vessels to carry out this work worldwide. Working at Boskalis means contributing to solutions that support global trade, enable the energy transition and protect coastlines. In a world where population growth, rising energy demand and climate change are key challenges, we create innovative, sustainable solutions for complex maritime projects.
Job Description
Some projects quite literally change the map. From creating new land to building ports and protecting coastlines, dredging is about shaping the world around us. As a Dredging Fleet Trainee at Boskalis in Papendrecht, you contribute to projects that have a visible and lasting impact.
What you can expect
As a trainee, you contribute your technical knowledge to the core dredging process by supporting engineering and operational projects, ensuring reliable vessel performance, and assisting with maintenance, upgrades and daily operations within the fleet. Your work combines technical problem-solving with hands-on involvement. This means working in the office on planning and coordination, as well as going on site or abroad to support projects in practice. You won’t be behind a desk all day — you will be close to the vessels, equipment and operations that make projects happen.
Depending on your assignment, you could be involved in large international projects such as the construction of new ports, land reclamation projects or coastal protection works. Recent examples include the development of Manila International Airport in the Philippines and coastal protection projects in the Maldives. While some assignments take place close to home, others bring you to project locations around the world where vessels operate continuously in international teams.
The programme
The 12-month Fleet Track Traineeship prepares you for a role as a Technical Superintendent within our dredging division. As a Technical Superintendent, you are responsible for the technical performance, maintenance and reliability of vessels and equipment. As a trainee, you will set development goals and work on them throughout the programme. Focused on learning by doing, you will complete two tailored assignments. You will work with experienced colleagues, receive guidance from a mentor and follow training courses.
Qualifications
You are excited to start your career in a hands-on technical environment. Always curious, you are eager to learn, especially when working with new systems or unfamiliar dredging equipment and technical situations. Furthermore, you have:
• A completed MBO level 4, Associate Degree or BSc in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar.
• Affinity with technical systems, machinery or maritime environments.
• A practical mindset and interest in hands-on technical work, both in the office and on-site.
• Flexibility to work in different environments and adapt to changing project conditions, also abroad.
• A good command of spoken and written English.
This vacancy is open for candidates living in the Netherlands.
Rewarding conditions
At Boskalis, you work in an international and hands-on environment where you contribute to complex projects and take on responsibility from an early stage. We offer a strong combination of learning opportunities and attractive employment conditions, including:
- A competitive salary.
- 26 vacation days (based on a full-time contract), a number of collective scheduled days off and a holiday allowance.
- A non-contributory pension scheme and additional collective benefits.
- Access to training and courses at the Boskalis Academy.
- Young Boskalis: a network of young professionals offering social and sporting activities.
