Job Description
***This position is physically located in Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP***
The Board-Certified Physician Surgeon provides comprehensive surgical care, including the diagnosis, treatment, and management of general internal injuries and diseases. The surgeon performs operative procedures, provides perioperative care, conducts follow-up evaluations, and advises patients on recuperative and preventive healthcare measures. The role requires advanced surgical expertise and the ability to operate independently in a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) or austere/deployed environment.
Responsibilities

- Perform general surgical procedures, including operative and non-operative interventions.
- Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with internal injuries, acute surgical conditions, and general surgical diseases.
- Conduct preoperative assessments, perioperative management, and postoperative care.
- Advise patients on recuperative measures, rehabilitation, and preventive healthcare practices.
- Document all patient encounters, operative procedures, and outcomes in compliance with regulatory and MTF standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, anesthesiologists, and allied healthcare providers.
- Participate in surgical rounds, case reviews, and continuous quality improvement programs.
- Provide care in deployed, austere, or remote medical environments.

Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required. Use the guide below to determine education and experience for this position.
- Education:
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an accredited General Surgery residency program.
- Licensure / Registration:
- Board certification in General Surgery.
- Current, unrestricted state medical license valid in at least one U.S. state, DC, U.S. territory, or Commonwealth.
- Completion of residency and passing required examinations, including USMLE (overseen by NBME).
- Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) clearance requiring US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
- Experience:
- PGY-5 chief surgical resident experience or equivalent post-residency clinical practice experience.
- Experience performing independent surgical procedures and perioperative management.
- Life Support Requirements
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification (AHA or Red Cross).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Additional Requirements:
- Must meet all medical, security, credentialing, and deployment requirements per contract and V2X policy.
- Maintain licensure, board certification, and life support certifications for the duration of employment.
- Some on-call may apply.
- Skills:
- Expertise in general surgery, including operative techniques, perioperative care, and trauma management.
- Strong clinical judgment, diagnostic skills, and decision-making ability.
- Ability to work independently in austere, deployed, or resource-limited environments.
- Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Working Conditions:
- Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).
- Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
- The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
- The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
- Physical Requirements:
- Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
- Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
