Job Description

The Center for Development and Disability (CDD), established in 1990, is New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service. These centers, authorized by the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act, build the capacities of states and communities to respond to the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Counselor/Social Worker will provide direct services as part of the FOCUS Program within the UNM Center for Development and Disabilities Early Childhood Home and Family Services (ECHFS) Division. Services may be provided to families with children birth to five who have or are at risk of having developmental delays. Many of the children served by the program are at risk or have experienced child abuse, neglect, and/or attachment disruptions. All services are delivery using a family centered, developmentally and relationally informed approach. The Counselor/Social Worker will provide home- and community-based evaluation, intervention, and treatment services and/or social work support services depending on experience and licensure. The ECHFS Division at the CDD provides a continuum of early childhood home visiting, early intervention and clinical evaluation and treatment services. The FOCUS Programs provides integrated early intervention and family medical services to families of young children. Most children referred to the program have experienced prenatal substance exposure, and many have endured child abuse and neglect. Although this position is for the FOCUS Program, the Counselor/Social Worker may be assigned to work in any or all of these services providing evaluation, service coordination, intervention, treatment, and/or community-based support within the ECHFS Division. Additionally, the Counselor/Social worker will demonstrate: • Capacity for effective collaborating with internal and community partners; • Knowledge of community resources including resources for meeting basic needs, housing, behavioral health counseling, and other needs presented by families; • Knowledge of state and federal reporting requirements; • Strong organizational skills and capacity to meet program documentation billing requirements.
