Duties Responsibilities Oversight of Psychology Advising Office Responsible for the supervision, management, and mentoring of the Psychology Advising Office team which includes advisors, and peer assistants. This includes oversight of team, communication with students, academic policy, processes, and implementation, managing employee leave, annual reviews and professional development plans. This also includes delegating responsibilities equitably and enabling promotional growth. Delegate and oversee advising duties including the assigning of student cohorts, hybrid schedules and responsibilities, new student registration, career support, etc. Supervise New Student Registration – NSR (May-July) including: ◦ Coordinating/developing NSR plan with LAS Admissions Director ◦ Supervising summer Peer Assistants Provide oversight for departmental, college and campus functions and events for undergraduates, including convocation, LAS Lift-off, Admitted Student Days, IlliniFest, Major/Minor Fair, etc. Supervise office support staff to enable effective management of advising responsibilities in the department such as communication with students, monitoring the advising email box, managing student appointments, student forms, etc. Oversee the maintenance of undergraduate records, files, and rosters. Serve as a resource and liaison for Psychology Undergraduate Advising team, escalating issues to department leadership as needed. Direct Advising Responsible for the advising of undergraduate majors (minimum 250) and many other non-majors seeking advice about psychology courses. Provides information about careers in psychology and related fields Hold walk-in hours, online and in-person student appointments for prospective and current students and minors. Oversee the proficiency exams and student petitions processes including capricious grading complaints as well as general advising forms, student issues and needs as they arise Group advising via Teaching non-credit orientation psychology course in psychology. Acquiring and disseminating information about graduate schools and careers in psychology and related areas. Advising Program Coordination Ensuring compliance and successful delivery of Psychology advising services and managing limited budget/ expenditures for the Undergraduate Advising Office. Work with the LAS Admissions director to develop and coordinate a plan for transfer student registration. Work with the LAS Core Advising team and departmental advisors to monitor and review academic progress for psychology majors. Work with Psychology Head/Director of Undergraduate Studies to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the advising team and college-level advising team. Collaborate with Psychology head and/or Director of Undergraduate Studies to coordinate undergraduate education and academic support programs. Serve as a member of the department curriculum and instruction committee Graduation Ceremony Management Responsible for, in collaboration with the advising team, convocation organization and convocation planning which includes securing agreements for music, photography, live stream, collaborate with ceremony venue, create program, solicit faculty help, coordinate staff marshals, and supervise “day of” activities
