Job Description
STEM Teacher Grades 9-12
Program: CREC Polaris Center
CREC's John J. Allison, Jr. Polaris Center is seeking a STEM Teacher to work with students in grades 9-12, beginning the 26-27 school year. The Polaris Center serves students in grades K-12 who are presenting with social, emotional and behavioral challenges.
Essential Functions
- Facilitates student growth in developmental, affective and cognitive domains by promoting student participation in the learning experience, promoting analytical thinking, teaching effective work habits and study skills and providing opportunities for individual achievement.
- Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
- Modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Creates a classroom environment which is trauma informed, compassionate but highly structured to promote positive student learning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and CT State certification in HS Technology Education or Science. Ability to receive Durational Shortage Permit will be considered.
- Previous experience working with students who have social, emotional, behavioral and learning challenges.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to be certified in Safety Care.
Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
