Description
Responsibilities
Field Leadership
- Lead day-to-day commercial sheet metal and HVAC duct installation activities.
- Supervise sheet metal mechanics, installers, and apprentices; assign work and manage productivity.
- Ensure crews have the tools, materials, and direction needed to maintain production.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Plan daily/weekly work activities and coordinate installation sequences.
- Perform layout and ensure proper installation of duct systems, fittings, hangers, supports, and accessories.
- Coordinate with Project Managers/Superintendents to maintain schedules and manpower plans.
- Work with other trades (plumbing, HVAC piping, electrical, fire protection) to resolve clashes and maintain progress.
- Participate in jobsite coordination meetings and provide field updates.
- Ensure installations meet project requirements and applicable standards (e.g., SMACNA where applicable).
- Conduct regular quality checks and correct deficiencies before inspections.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and professional jobsite appearance.
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure safe work practices.
- Identify hazards, coach safe behaviors, and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Mentor and develop apprentices and newer installers.
- Support continuous improvement in field execution and craftsmanship.
- Promote accountability, teamwork, and high performance.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial sheet metal/HVAC duct installation experience.
- 2+ years in a foreman or lead role on commercial projects.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of duct fabrication/installation methods, supports/hangers, and jobsite coordination practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Experience on large commercial, healthcare, institutional, or industrial projects.
- Familiarity with SMACNA standards and related mechanical codes.
- Experience with prefab installation, coordination drawings, or BIM-supported workflows.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced jobsite environment.
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to craftsmanship and quality.
- Effective communicator with crews, project leadership, and other trades.
- Safety-first mindset and consistent enforcement of safe work practices.
