Job Description

Salary: $50,000 Minimum

Report Times: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Daily Hours: 8.5 (7.5 Paid)
Work Year: 52 Weeks
Supervisor: Assistant Director of Transportation
Civil Service Title: Bus Driver Trainer/Safety Coordinator (Competitive)
Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus three (3) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in a school district transportation office and/or the operation of a bus in the transport of students.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Depending upon assignment, possession of a current Class *B* or Class *C* Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a *P* (Passenger) endorsement and *S* (School Bus) endorsement, issued by the State of New York at the time of appointment (must be twenty-one (21) years of age in order to be eligible to obtain required driver's license).
Must meet all other State and Federal pre-employment requirements of the position prior to
employment.
Desired Qualifications:
Must possess or obtain 19A Certification within one year;
Must possess or obtain School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) Certification within 18 months;
Possesses and demonstrates a positive attitude and works well with others;
Excellent driving record;
Good attendance record;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Must exhibit professional demeanor;
Cultivate a culture of mutual respect and open, honest dialogue while prioritizing collaborative problem-solving;
Possess excellent computer skills;
Proficient in computer programs such as Google Docs, Word, and Excel/technology skills.;
Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality;
All sensitive information must remain privileged and protected without exception;
Self-sufficient, able to make confident decisions;
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, including multitasking and meeting deadlines amid multiple distractions;
Must be able to speak clearly and professionally to large and small groups;
Satisfactory evaluations during their years of employment.
Position Summary/Responsibilities:
Work as needed to train new employees, including Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) ;
Coordinate and conduct Annual DDR's, Biennial Road Tests, Written Tests, Annual Reviews and Abstracts;
Conduct Physical Standard Performance Tests (PPT) for drivers and attendants;
Coordinate and schedule Annual Driver 19A Physicals;
Coordinate and conduct school bus safety training for kindergarten orientations;
Coordinate and conduct in-school safety programs;
Coordinate and conduct all in-service training for drivers and attendants, including Pre-Service, 30 Hour Basic Course for Drivers;
Advanced Course for Drivers, 10 Hour Basic Course for Attendants and Refreshers;
Maintains 19A Files according to DMV/SED requirements;
Participate in the interview and hiring process of potential Driver and Attendant trainees;
May be asked to drive or attend as needed;
Willing to work various hours as needed;
