Job Description

Title: Varsity Boys Track Coach

Location: Greenville High School

Classification: Athletic Coach

Reports to: Director of Athletics

Schedule: Seasonal

Salary: $3,951 - $6,740 per season, based upon relevant prior experience

Benefits: This position does not meet the requirements for benefit eligibility


POSITION SUMMARY: The Varsity Boys Track Coach will promote athletic excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development while leading and managing all aspects of the boys track and field program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties may be assigned

  • Organize, supervise, and conduct safe and effective practices and competitions
  • Develop training programs and conditioning plans appropriate for student athletes
  • Teach sport-specific drills, strategies, and fundamentals
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture
  • Promote good sportsmanship and appropriate behavior among athletes
  • Monitor athlete eligibility, attendance, academic progress, and conduct
  • Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and athletic department staff
  • Coordinate meet schedules, transportation needs, uniforms, and equipment
  • Maintain and inventory equipment and facilities
  • Ensure compliance with all district, league, and state athletic association policies
  • Supervise assistant coaches and support staff as applicable
  • Encourage multi-level program development and collaboration with middle school and sub-varsity programs
  • Respond appropriately to injuries and emergency medical situations following district procedures
  • Commitment to regular and predictable attendance

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred
  • Knowledge of track and field events, conditioning, and training techniques
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
  • Knowledge of MHSAA policies preferred
  • Satisfactory background check

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

The employee must be able to:

  • Stand for extended periods during practices and meets
  • Sit for extended periods on buses for away meets and tournaments
  • Perform and demonstrate track and field skills
  • Move around the facility, observe players, and actively engage with them
  • React quickly in fast-paced game play to ensure player safety
  • Lift and move equipment (typically up to 25-50 lbs)
  • Project voice loudly and clearly in noisy environments
  • Maintain composure under stress
