JOB EXPECTATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Position Purpose / Description

 

Reporting to the Principal, the Student Support Specialist for the NCHS Success Center is responsible for:

  • De-escalating emotionally dysregulated students.
  • Implementing strategies for managing trauma informed care.
  • Assisting students with completing their assignments, ensure they are meeting academic expectations, and communicate with teachers about progress and missing work.
  • Participating in training and professional development activities to stay current on best practices in student behavior management and restorative practices.
  • Keeping accurate records of student attendance, behavior and other required documents and submitting them in a timely manner.
  • Utilizing data to make informed decisions in regards to student behavior and school processes.
  • Creating and monitoring individualized behavioral intervention plans.
  • Engaging students in a differentiated experience that serves the students' needs.
  • Preparing and executing lessons on regulation strategies, social language skills, social interaction skills, emotional intelligence, emotional expression and communication skills.
  • Any other related duties as may be assigned by the building principal.
  • Working with teachers in a professional manner to create classroom management strategies.
  • Effectively implementing restorative practices.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience working with students in a school environment, particularly in behavioral or disciplinary settings.
  • Certification or training in behavior management or conflict resolution (preferred but not required)
  • Knowledge of restorative practices
  • Ability to work well with staff and students.
  • Ability to connect with students and demonstrate strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies and provide first aid if necessary.
  • Ability to supervise and collaborate with other professionals. 

 

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
