JOB TITLE: Elementary Special Education Teacher

LOCATION: Madison Elementary School

START DATE: Fall 2026

SALARY: Per MEA Master Agreement

DESCRIPTION

Madison District Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our elementary team. The ideal candidate will be committed to supporting the diverse needs of students with disabilities and will work collaboratively to create an inclusive, supportive, and effective learning environment. This teacher will develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) to promote academic, social, and emotional growth. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Special Education endorsement
  • Experience working with students in a special education setting
  • Knowledge of IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and experience developing and implementing IEPs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to assess and address the unique needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) based on students' strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials and teaching methods to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess students' academic and social development, and use data to adjust instruction as needed.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure the success of all students.
  • Provide direct instruction to students in small group or one-on-one settings as outlined in their IEPs, including in-class support within the general education classroom to promote inclusive learning.
  • Manage classroom behavior and implement behavior intervention strategies when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records, including progress reports, assessments, and attendance.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages social-emotional learning and student growth.
  • Participate in professional development and stay current with best practices in special education.
