JOB GOAL: To provide instructional leadership with a focus on improvement of student learning, and to actively supervise and lead instructional activities within the school. The principal is required to spend a majority of his/her time on activities which foster and expect the improvement of instruction, including curriculum and staff development. The elementary school principal will also maintain cooperative relationships with various individuals and groups associated with the school and provide regular communication to parents, students and employed staff. Important in all of these activities is personal and professional growth, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership success, trustworthy, genuine and a problem solver.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
SUPERVISES: Building Staff and Students
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Accountable for student academic performance.
- Supervises directly: certified, ESP, and custodial staff.
- Implements Board of Education aims, goals, policies and regulations.
- Provides educational leadership to administer and continually upgrade the quality of the instructional program in all its facets.
- Effectively communicates the District's instructional programs and procedures to the staff, community, and other pertinent organizations.
- Directs the planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation of all instructional activities.
- Makes necessary provisions for health and safety of students, staff, and community members.
- Implements the behavior management plans as established by the Board of Education.
- Coordinates the work of the student services personnel assigned to the school.
- Contributes to the development of an articulation program with the other district schools.
- Evaluates personnel in accordance with the evaluation plans of the district.
- Develops with the building and district staff an educational program in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines which meets the specific needs of the community served.
- Supervises the maintenance of the physical plant and grounds.
- Communicates suggested recommendations for changes in policies, practices, or procedures to his/her immediate supervisor.
- Have excellent assessment skills, with the ability to demonstrate the school's accountability in meeting state testing standards and local outcomes.
- Develops, implements and supports school, family, and community partnerships.
- Additional District level responsibilities to be determined by the Superintendent, the Board of Education, and the members of the Superintendent's Leadership Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a Professional Educator License with a Principal or General Administrative endorsement in the State of Illinois
- Advanced degree from an accredited college/university
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
- Previous elementary school leadership experience involving working with teachers and staff
- Ability to project positive images to students, staff members, parents, the Board of Education, and community members.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrates a record of dynamic leadership that includes partnering with staff and parents
- Experience working with students identified as needing special education services
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff and parents
- Must be an independent, innovative administrator as well as have the ability to be part of an effective leadership team
- Experience in implementing the Illinois Learning Standards.
- Strong commitment to student learning, continuous improvement and data-based decision making
- Experience working with a diverse population and programming
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Length of contract 10.5-months.
- Number of working days in a calendar year 210 days 12 paid holidays.
- Salary and conditions established by the Board of Education. For this position the salary range is $105,000 - $115,000 based on experience.
EVALUATION:
Performance is evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee.
