Reports To: Director of Social Services

Location: Family Shelter Site

Status/Hours: Full-time, Monday � Friday (some evening hours may be required)

Salary Range: $75,000 - $75,000

Program Description

Brooklyn Community Services (BCS) operates family shelters providing safe, supportive, and dignified transitional housing for families with children experiencing homelessness. Our shelter programs are guided by a trauma-informed, strengths-based philosophy and offer a comprehensive continuum of services�including case management, housing placement, recreation, and supportive programming�to help families achieve stability and permanent housing as quickly as possible. All shelter staff are expected to uphold BCS's commitment to equity, cultural humility, and client-centered care.

Position Overview

The Case Manager Supervisor provides direct supervision and clinical guidance to a team of case managers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliance-driven case management services to families in the shelter. This role monitors caseloads and documentation quality, facilitates supervisory sessions, and serves as a liaison between frontline staff and senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision and Team Support

  • Provide weekly individual and group supervision to assigned case managers, reviewing cases, documentation, and service plan progress.

  • Monitor caseload assignments and workload distribution to ensure appropriate staffing coverage.

  • Support case managers in addressing complex cases, crisis situations, and client conflicts.

  • Facilitate peer learning, reflective supervision, and staff development activities.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and contribute to hiring decisions.

Program Oversight and Quality Assurance

  • Conduct regular reviews of case records in CARES to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of documentation.

  • Monitor compliance with DHS required contacts, service plan timelines, and housing benchmarks.

  • Identify systemic issues in service delivery and collaborate with Director of Social Services on corrective action.

  • Participate in case conferences, critical incident reviews, and team meetings.

Direct Practice and Coordination

  • Carry a small direct caseload as needed.

  • Serve as a bridge between case managers and housing specialists, facilitating coordinated client support.

  • Maintain working relationships with DHS oversight staff and external service providers.

  • Contribute to reporting and program evaluation activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in Social Work or a related human services field required; LMSW preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of three years of case management experience, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity; shelter or housing services experience strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with DHS shelter standards, CARES system, and NYC housing subsidy programs.

  • Skills: Strong supervisory, coaching, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities and support staff in high-stress environments.

  • Other: Bilingual ability (Spanish or another language spoken in the community served) strongly preferred. Candidates will be subject to a criminal background check in accordance with applicable law, including NYC Fair Chance Act requirements.
