Preschool Head Teacher-School Day (On Site Sub/Support)

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and highly engaged and flexible Preschool Head Teacher to provide sub coverage and support in our preschool classrooms. The Head Teacher leads classroom instruction, supports child development through intentional planning and assessment, and fosters a positive, nurturing learning environment while implementing the HighScope Daily Routine with fidelity. 

This role requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to developmentally appropriate practice, and the ability to build warm, respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Ongoing professional development is provided to support your continued growth and success.

Locations: Preschool Classrooms at Old Village School, Ridge Wood and Thornton Creek 

Hours: Monday through Friday
8 hours/day

Hourly Rate: Pre-K Head Teacher Salary Schedule
2026-27 starting at Step 1 = $22.69
School year position with optional summer employment

Start Date:  2026-27 School Year, at or around August 24, 2026 

Educational Requirements: 

1. Required: An associate's degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education.
2. Preferred: Bachelor's degree (BA) in one of the fields listed above.
3. Experience working with families and children three to five years old including observing, documenting, and assessing development.

Qualifications:
~ Knowledge of NAEYC Standards and Criteria for Accredited Programs
~ Knowledge of State of Michigan Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers
~ Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification (training provided)
~ Must have basic computer skills
~ Must obtain a minimum of 16 professional development hours annually
~ Experience supervising adults preferred
~ Must be at least 21 years of age

Duties and Responsibilities: 
Maintain a safe, educational classroom environment designed to promote learning in all areas of children's development.
Attend HIgh Scope Summer training and implement the HIgh Scope Daily Routine. 
Implement developmentally appropriate practice across teaching practice including planning, behavior management, and assessment.
Maintain classroom environment in accordance with Licensing Rules and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
Use positive guidance techniques to address challenging behaviors.
Demonstrate positive adult/child interactions in the classroom during all parts of their day showing affection, interest and respect.
Establish warm and supportive relationships with children and families.
Recognize the needs of all students individualizing and seeking assistance when appropriate.
Actively participates in the MTSS process and implements behavior strategies with fidelity. 
Maintain regular communication with families via newsletters via Storyboard. 
Assess children's development using Child Observation Record (COR) and lead parent teacher conferences twice per year.
Maintain classroom records and submit as required to the EC office. 
Adhere to all EC and District policies and procedures. 
Demonstrates a growth mindset including collaboration with Early Childhood Specialist.
Demonstrate the ability to lead the classroom team toward common goals.
Supervise and provide ongoing feedback to support staff including completing probationary and/or annual evaluations.
Maintain confidentiality.
Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn aspects of HighScope curriculum and Reggio Philosophy.
