POSITION: Lifeguard/PCEP Summer School
Temporary Summer Position
LOCATION: Canton High School
SUMMER SCHOOL SCHEDULE:
June 22 - July 23, 2026
Monday � Thursday
HOURS: 7:25am -1:30pm
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of all individuals in the pool during P-CEP Summer School.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must possess a current Red Cross C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Lifeguarding Certifications.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to withstand exposure to chemicals commonly used in swimming pool environments.
- Ability to clearly communicate procedures, problems, and policies with fellow employees and the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
- Ability to respond to emergencies and distress situations quickly and effectively.
- Ability to work the summer school session.
- This is an "At-Will" position: Work assignments and hours are scheduled based on availability, and within the confines of the budget. Schedules and work hours are not guaranteed and are subject to change at any time due to division needs, budgeting constraints, and staff availability.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promotes a positive and safe experience for all students.
- Observes the behavior of all students, either by patrolling the deck or by surveying from the lifeguard chair, as directed.
- Communicates PCCS policies, rules, and procedures in a friendly and pleasant manner.
- Provides updates to people within the pool area as needed.
- Performs daily Lifeguard duties, pool/deck rules enforcement, teacher assistance, rescues, and lifesaving skills when necessary.
- Alerts teaching staff to any dangerous, unsanitary, or potentially hazardous conditions.
- Assists swim teaching staff with record keeping, equipment usage, and swim lessons.
- Communicates with the summer school teaching staff and principal if absent.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

SALARY: $16 per hour

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Upon recommendation for employment, Section 1230g, as amended, of the Revised School Code requires all school employees to be electronically finger printed for the purpose of undergoing a criminal history background check. The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
