Job Description
SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
Position Summary:
The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE), and district policies. This position focuses on creating an inclusive learning environment where all students can succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and support staff.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Collaborate with general education staff to support accommodations, modifications, and inclusion.
- Conduct evaluations and contribute to Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and IEP team meetings.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal special education requirements.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
- Participate in all professional development and school/district leadership teams.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Special Education
- Knowledge of Michigan special education law, IDEA, and MARSE.
- Experience with differentiated instruction, behavioral supports, and evidence-based practices.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Terms of Employment:
- Full-time position following the Atherton Community Schools teacher contract.
- Salary and benefits in accordance with the negotiated agreement.
